an update from beth.

hi group.

currently. requested by the dr. i have to have bed rest all week because bronchitis and a 103 temp requires that.

however, i am going to attempt to come to class thursday for a hour so i dont miss out and even attempt to stay the whole class depending on how i feel.

but i did read the whole book already and i will post more this weekend about the pages we were suppose to read for this class 1-27.

hope all is well.
cheers.
beth

look forward to your thoughts on mango st.

Beth,
Got your message (thank you). If you don't feel well enough to be there, we understand. Just do your best to get better :)

Best,

I have to say that my favorite vignette so far was the chapter titled "Louie, His Cousin & His Other Cousin." While reading this part, I really thought about how well written these vignettes are. Sandra Cisneros recollects fine details from the past, but does not write about them as if they are in the past. Her description of how "the window's didn't roll up like in ordinary cars. Instead there was a button that did it for you automatically" (Cisneros, 24). She talks about this car as if it were brand new and had leather seats. Speaking from this perspective really adds to how genuine the storytelling is.
